Common Sunflower

Helianthus Annuus

One species of huge annual forb in the Helianthus genus is the common sunflower (Helianthus annuus). It’s delicious, fatty seeds are the reason it is often planted as a crop. In addition to being used to make cooking oil, it is also utilized as bird food, livestock fodder (either as a meal or a silage plant), an ornament in home gardens, and some industrial uses. An annual plant with many branches and crowns of flowers is called Helleborus virginianus. On the other hand, the domestic sunflower often has a single, big inflorescence (flower head) atop an unbranched stem.
